ePAY Transportation

Each day over 800,000 students and adults ride public transport vehicles using cash as the only method of paying for the ride. This is about to change.

ePAY has developed an electronic fare collection system that is uniquely tailored for private and public transportation. The system provides the foundation for a fundamental shift in payments for transportation.

Private Transportation

The system transforms private school buses into Smart Buses by providing GPS functionality such that they can be tracked and monitored by parents.

The system is supported with a mobile app to track bus movements, view transactions and balances and reconcile payments with operators.

Parents can load their child’s card at Paymaster or by bill payment on bank platforms and ecommerce payment using any Visa or Mastercard.

Parents should call ePAY to upgrade their current bus provider to an ePAY Smart Bus and enjoy the peace of mind, convenience and control in managing their child’s transportation to and from school.

Private Bus for Students

Student
  1. Students are registered on the www.epayja.com website.
  2. Parents transfer funds to their child’s card using online top up, bank transfer, Paymaster.
  3. The same card can be used on the bus and for purchases at the canteen.
  4. Parents and students are provided with a Mobile app and Customer Web-Portal to track transactions and view balances.
  5. The mobile app will provide the expected time of arrival for pick ups and drop offs.
  6. The card can be used at external vendors.
  7. The student’s name will be listed on the bus register for a specific route so that the driver can easily determine if all expected students are boarded.
Bus Operator
  1. The bus operator will register students on a bus that is assigned to a route.
  2. Drivers will be trained to accept payment from the cards using devices provided by ePAY.
  3. Drivers will ‘close’ a trip and the system will display all expected passengers that have not boarded. This ensures that all children are picked up. The driver will communicate with the student, parent or office to determine the status of students that are missing from the expected commuter listing.
  4. Drivers will collect funds for the bus operators based on their internal policies.
  5. The bus operator will use the ePAY Transport Web-Portal to track of their bus locations.
  6. Bus operators will be provided with reports that display utilization, revenue earned, speed, passengers, drivers.
  7. ePAY pays the bus operators the value of the fares processed two days after the rides.

The ePAY PASS system can easily be adapted to public transportation. However, the electronic fare collection system must operate in tandem with government policies.

At this point, ePAY is actively engaging the government to evaluate the ePAY PASS system as a solution for rural transportation.
